John R Powell
I am an artist, designer, competitive cyclist and coffee snob working in New York City. By day, I am a UX designer for Reaktor, a full-service design and software consultancy with additional offices in Helsinki, Tokyo, and Amsterdam. By night (evenings and weekends), I am a painter and bike racer.
I am a seasoned Senior Product Designer currently working at Reaktor in New York City where I am designing solutions on platforms such as desktop, mobile, augmented and virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, among others. My diverse 17-year career includes user experience design, user interface design, front-end development, graphic design, computer science and teaching at various universities. I have an uncommon ability to seamlessly shift between the strategic and tactical, consistently helping my team succeed on projects big and small.
My paintings are primarily abstract, combining drawing with oil and acrylic marks. I'm interested in images that are not "of" things so much as "about" them. I'm heavily influenced by artists such as Cy Twombly, Basquiat, and Robert Rauschenberg, to name a few.
